Language evolution is the field of linguistics that studies how a current language emerged and evolved along the human evolutionary line. Almost all the words we use nowadays are derived from different forms already used by our ancestors and which, arising from numerous causes, processes and factors, evolved into the states in which we know and use them today. Curiously enough, most of these factors affecting the evolution of languages are due to extra-linguistic aspects, such as socio-cultural, political, historical and geographical ones.
