Literary translation is probably the most widely known and discussed form of translation, but it represents only a small part of the translation industry. Compared to translators of commercial texts, literary translators earn considerably less, so the decision to enter this profession is probably in most cases based on personal enthusiasm for literature or for a particular language and culture.
Literary translations have played and continue playing an important role in intercultural exchange, the image of other cultures in a given linguistic community and the development of national culture and identity.
